My Ships> HMS FoudroyantHMS FoudroyantMy flagship during the recapture of Naples, 1799. She was a 3rd rate battleship with 80 guns and launched at Plymouth Royal Dockyard in 1798. The Foudroyant had been intended for my flag when I first went to sea after the loss of my arm but, not being ready, I was given the Vanguard instead. I eventually transferred my flag to her in May 1799 and remained in her until I quitted the Mediterranean the following year. She remained in those waters and took part in the Egyptian campaign of 1801. She remained in the Royal Navy until 1892 when she was finally sold to Mr Wheatley Cobb who wished to save her for the nation. But on 16 June 1897, she was wrecked off Blackpool. |
